Welcome back to my blog, dedicated to documenting my assignment through the Coursera course, "English for Common Interactions in the Workplace: Basic Level." As we dive into the content of Week 3, I am excited to share insights and reflections on the invaluable skills we are developing to enhance our workplace communication.

  Making Phone Call

In this week's module, I learned to make and receive basic telephone calls that commonly occur in a professional environment using the grammatical structures associated with them. Additionally, I acquired language-related vocabulary that was useful for making phone calls. Through designed activities you can develop and improve listening skills in English. In this situation model, a learning video explains how to respond when receiving an official telephone call, leave a voicemail, and answer a voicemail.

Next, the class video. Two materials are presented, such as, Vocabulary Focus: Telephone expressions, which are how to answer the telephone formally and informally. To answer the telephone formally, we say, "Good morning" or "Good afternoon," depending on the time of day, then say the name of the organization, then identify ourselves by saying "this is" and "your name." If it's informal we just say "hello?"

Examples:

Formal: Good morning. Global Voice Publicity. This is Camila speaking.

Informal : Hello?

Focus on grammar: Present simple.

For habits or routines we use Present Simple.

Examples:

I arrive at work at 8 am.

People chat in the cafeteria at lunch.

We move on to the comprehension strategy session which is equipped with Reading Comprehension and Listening Comprehension. In this video session, it is taught to develop important listening skills or what is called Gits, Gits refers to the most important part of information about something, or general information without details by understanding the main ideas by listening for keywords and intonation.

Thank you for joining me on this educational journey. Let's embrace the challenges and triumphs of Week 3 with enthusiasm and a commitment to enhancing our workplace communication skills.
