Comprehension Questions: Self-Grading Quiz

Discussion Questions

  • Easy (Recall and Comprehend):
1. What are the names of the two friends in the story?
> Ashley and James
2.Where does the story take place?
> Bookstore
3. What does it mean to “read someone like a book”?
>When they continued browsing, but the moment stuck with James. When Ashley spoke very openly about her feelings for James. James suddenly had an idea. He reached into his bag and took out the book he had taken earlier. He handed it to Ashley, telling her to read the writing on the first page.
To her surprise, it read on the page “To Ashley, the person who read me like a book . Love, James.”
4. How would you describe the relationship between Ashley and James?
> In my opinion, their relationship is  bounded to just friends, both of them are selfish, because they harbor feelings from "just friends" because they are trapped in the Friendzone.
5. What happens at the end of the story?
>They left the bookstore hand in hand

  • Intermediate (Analyze and Interpret):
1. Do you believe it is possible to read someone like a book? Why or why not?
>Reading someone like a book, in the sense of fully understanding their thoughts, emotions, and motivations just by observing them, is not generally possible. People are complex beings with a wide range of experiences, emotions, and personal histories that shape their behavior. While it is possible to make educated guesses or interpretations about someone's state of mind or emotions based on their body language, facial expressions, and verbal cues, these interpretations are often subject to error and misinterpretation.
2. Do you believe in the concept of “the one” or do you think there can be multiple people who are a good match for us?
>The concept of "the one" is a romantic notion that suggests there is a single, perfect soulmate or partner out there for each person. Some people may find the concept of "the one" meaningful and use it as a guiding principle in their romantic pursuits, while others may find it limiting and prefer to focus on building healthy, mutually satisfying relationships with individuals they connect with. The most important thing is to find a partner or partners who bring happiness and fulfillment to your life, whether you believe in the concept of "the one" or not.

  • Advanced (Analyze and Interpret):
1. Have you ever misjudged someone based on their appearance or behavior, only to later realize you were wrong? Can you share that experience?
>Yes, I have once misjudged someone based on their appearance or behavior, only to realize that I was wrong. When I was in junior high school for the first time, everything was new, the atmosphere was new, even my friends had new faces that I didn't know. One day I was in class with this girl, at first I thought she was a grumbling girl because of her face and indifference which was not my type and I thought of her like that. When I had the opportunity to get to know her more deeply, it turned out that my estimates were wrong. Shee is kind, friendly, and funny.
2. What communication skills can help us avoid misunderstandings and improve our relationships?
> I think,  Be aware of your body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice. These nonverbal cues can convey as much, if not more, information than words. Understand the other person's feelings and point of view. Put yourself in their shoes and show empathy toward their emotions and experiences.

Tugas 1 (Media Permainan Scrabble) - Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris Berbantuan Komputer

Hey everyone! I'm Agustine Sekar Widyasari, but you can just call me Sekar. It's okay if you want to call me Agustine, as long as you call my name. I want to share my experience of playing "Scrabble." Have you ever played this game?

According to Wikipedia, Scrabble is a board game that is played by 2, 3, or 4 people. It uses a 15×15 board with squares on it and a large number of letters on small tiles. This is the first time I tried this game seriously with my classmates. It's quite difficult because you have to think about the vocabulary that has been provided.

In this game, I failed, and my points were reduced due to a penalty because I was really confused about what words to enter on the board.

1. Pit (Noun)
a large hole in the ground, or a silghtly low area in any surface.
Example : "These pits in my skin are from when I had chinkenpox."

2. Muggy (Adjective)
(of weather) very warm and humid. When the weather is muggy, it is unplseasantly Warm and the air contains a lot of water.
Example : "What a muggy day!"

3. Er (Noun)

the sound that people often make when they pause in the middle of what they are saying or pause before they speak, often because they are deciding what to say.

Example: "Is he handsome?" "Er, well - he's got a nice friendly sort of face, though he's not exactly handsome."

4. Ark (Noun)
(in the Bible) a large wooden ship built by Noah in order to save his family and a male and female of every type of animal when the world was covered by a flood.
Example: Many Ethiopians believe that Aksum is home to the Ark of the Covenant.

5. Labial (Adjective)
Labial sounds are consonant sounds made with the two lips.
Example : /m/ and /p/ are labial sounds.

6. Ray (Noun)
a narrow beam of light, heat, etc. travelling in a straight line from its place of origin.
Example : A ray of sunshine shone through a gap in the clouds.

Those are some words that unfamiliar to me. If there is a word that is new or unfamiliar to us, we have to look for the meaning of the word to add to our own vocabulary. Maybe that's all from me, Thank you.
